Lord Ganesha has 108 names and the most popular 12 out of them are as follows:
1) Gajaanan 2) Mahakaaya 3) Omkaar 4) Shupkarna 5) Vakratunda 6) Sindhuravarna 7) Krishnapingaaksha Chaturbhuj 9) Mangalmurti 10) Bhaalchandra 11) Ekadanta 12) Lambodar.
To compare the Lord of Lords, Lord Ganesha, with a Sales Professional may sound rude but I strongly believe that remnants of His traits are surely there in a Sales Professional.
Let us look at some of these traits which probably a Sales Professional must have been tutored by Lord Ganesha or his ilk.
Focus on Ideal Customer Profile
As per mythology, when Ganesha ji was asked to complete a round of the world, He quickly took a round of his parents and said this is the world for me. This is the similar kind of focus which is required by a sales professional to focus on his ICP (Ideal Customer Profile) whenever he is asked to sell a product.
2. Listen Actively to the Customer (Large Ears)
3. Think Big!
The Sales professional always thinks about a sales target that is bigger than what his boss gives him because he is blessed by Lord Ganesha to think big, think different, think fresh and be always visible to his target group of customers. Why else do you think that sales professionals have such big foreheads?
4. Givers Gain!
Mythology suggests that Lord Ganesha has one of his tusks(Left) broken. The history is that Parshuram was blessed with an axe by his father. Once Parshuram hurled the axe at Lord Ganesha. The latter could have avoided the axe but instead allowed his tusk to fall prey to the same because he wanted to give it to his father that the latter’s blessing to Parshuram cannot go waste. This is the power of the giver.
Sales Pros are also by default always in mode of “May I Help you?”. Not because this will lead to a new sale but because they believe that they more they give to their customers , the more the latter will give to them. After all, “What goes around, comes around!” ,isn’t it?
5. Sales Pros have Ridhi as well as Sidhi
In mythology, Ganesha was blessed by Lord Bramha to have two wives, Ridhi and Sidhi. One represents intellect and the other represents prosperity. Lord Bramha wanted to bless Lord Ganesha with the best of both the worlds.
Sales Pros are also blessed with a lot of Ridhi as well as Sidhi. Tell me another profession, where this is possible ?
6. Sales Kundalini
Lord Ganesha has a huge belly so that the enormous amounts of energy arising out of an active and Jagrit Kundalini can be encompassed in the same. The navel is tied to a snake which represents an active kunalini!
All Sales Pros have their Sales Kundalini active. The energy exhibited by any Sales pro is phenomenal. They always show a hunger for results which is unparalleled with any other profession.
7. Sales “Modaks”
Modak is the favourite food of Lord Ganesha and it is said that Ganesha could be lured by offering Modaks.
A sales pro is lured by the right incentives. The modak of sales incentives keeps a sales pro charged up beyond the comprehension of any common man.
Never try to gauge the energy of a Sales pro , once you have suitably incentivised them!
8. Sales Pros have 4 hands
Lord Ganesha is always shown with 4 hands. One holds the lotus and signifies intellectual pursuit. The other holds an axe which is used to destroy all roadblocks for Ganesha. The third hand holds a plate of modak and the fourth hand is free to perform “karmas”.
The picture above clearly denotes the 4 arms of a Sales Pro.
9. Sales Pros have a Mouse
In mythology, someone cursed Lord Ganesha to become a mouse. only to realise later the greatness of Lord Ganesha. It was then decided that everyone must crush their useless thoughts but the “mouse” will always be prayed by all along with Lord Ganesha!
This happens with sales pro. Sometimes customers try to crush their ego but the sales pro always has a means to crush useless thoughts and prevail upon the situation.
In a nutshell
My salute to all Sales Professionals in this world. On this auspicious day of Ganesha Chaturthi, I once again reiterate that the blessings of Lord Ganesha will continue on each one of you out there till you continue to perform “the karmas of sales’ with equanimity.
